The following are examples of rotational opportunities for entry-level engineers.

Technical Services/Process Engineering - Chemical Eng.

  • Provide engineering support and optimization to assigned process unit
  • Work to maintain safe, environmentally sound and reliable plant performance
  • Use practical engineering skills in a hands-on environment
  • Identify areas for process improvement
  • Track the day-to-day progress of an assigned unit plant performance
  • Work with operators, engineers, contractors and vendors

Project Engineering - Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng., Civil Eng.

  • Overall responsibility for multiple projects from design to implementation
  • Develop scope of work, prepare specifications, and purchase major material
  • Oversee design and CAD effort that results in a construction package
  • Develop appropriations, budgets and schedules
  • Provide technical support and overall project management during construction
  • Work with people from a variety of areas including process engineering, operations, maintenance, environmental, safety and material management

Maintenance and Reliability Engineering - Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng., Civil Eng.

  • Assist in reliability studies and equipment selections used to plan for maintenance shutdowns
  • Gather economic and historical repair data on existing equipment
  • Perform hands-on equipment evaluations
  • Interact with engineers to determine best option for repairing damaged/faulty equipment
  • Utilizing risk-based inspection processes monitor various refinery equipment for corrosion and fatigue.
  • Opportunities for creativity in establishing new risk analysis methods
  • Work with engineers and operators

E&I Project Engineering - Electrical Eng.

  • Manage electrical or instrumentation projects from design to implementation
  • Overall responsibility for multiple projects from design to implementation
  • Develop scope of work, prepare specifications and purchase major material
  • Oversee design and CAD effort that results in a construction package
  • Develop appropriations, budgets and schedules
  • Provide technical support and overall project management during construction
  • Work with people from a variety of areas including process engineering, operations, maintenance, environmental, safety and material management

Turnaround Support - Chemical Eng, Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng., Civil Eng.

  • Take part in planning and execution of multimillion dollar maintenance shutdowns (turnarounds) and mini-turnarounds which are performed several times a year on our major process units. Responsibilities include:
  • Build scope of work using planning software
  • Gather and organize equipment information from drawings and field inspections
  • Verify engineering scopes and materials through fieldwork
  • Prepare milestone plans, budgets and efficiency analysis reports
  • Coordinate personnel brought in to assist with the shutdown
  • Ensure that schedules and budgets are met during the turnaround
  • Interact with a variety of people including turnaround group, planners, refinery personnel and outside contractors
